The Ominous Poxes

Yup, it's finally come upon us: Chantal and Floppy have contracted chicken pox. Luchi got it a few weeks ago, then her little son Raff, and well, we realized it was useless trying to keep the kids apart. I had hoped the baby wouldn't get it, as I'm immune and she's exclusively breastfed, but I guess the airborne virus got the better of her. Sniff. Oh well, better now than later, amen?
We all had a rather sleepless, uncomfortable night, especially poor little Chantal, who cried and unsuccessfully tried to itch all night long; so please keep the girls in your prayers. On the bright side, that's one inoculation they won't have to receive, ha ha!

Sidenote: After Floppy was born, the day we came back from the hospital, we were immediately confined to my room because one of the kids came down with chicken pox that day, and we didn't want to risk the 3-days-old baby's health. My friend and co-hospital-roomie Joella and baby Wully (who was born the day before Floppy) were also quarantined to their room. Y'all might not believe this (except of course you who were there) but by the time the virus had finished going through all the occupants of our sizable community, we had been in our respective rooms for FOUR MONTHS, from late February to the end of June. I was especially unhappy, because my room was at the end of a hallway on the top floor, and had to actually cross the entire house in order to go to the kitchen or outside. But at least the babies did not get the virus then, so I guess it was worth it.
The things we parents do for our children ...

  1. Claire to help the kids not itch...and end up with scars use Calamine lotion generously on them. It's pink and looks like icing on a cake, but it helps...otherwise regular diaper zinc cream.
or if your bedding can take it gentiane violet.
